Police

Assistance or reporting to local police

Individuals are encouraged, but not required, to report these crimes to the police. The Department of Public Safety and the Title IX Coordinator will assist individuals wishing to make a report to the police. A police report must be made before a criminal prosecution can be considered by the local State’s Attorney’s Office. The chances of successful prosecution are greater if the report to the police is timely. Law enforcement can also assist in implementing emergency protective restraining orders.

Non-consensual sexual penetration or contact, domestic violence, dating violence and stalking are crimes.

If the incident occurred on campus, the 91社区 Police Department has jurisdiction and can be contacted at:

255 W. Deerpath Rd., 91社区, IL 60045

847-234-2601 (non-emergency)

911 (emergency)

For incidents in Chicago, contact:

Chicago Police Department
1718 South State Street, Chicago, IL 60616

Medical

It is advisable that you seek medical attention as soon as possible for STI exposure, pregnancy risk assessment and/or to collect medical evidence to assist in criminal prosecution if applicable.

Please note that if you go to the hospital, the police will be called, but you are not obligated to talk to the police or to pursue prosecution. A medical exam or the collection of evidence will not obligate you to pursue any course of action but can assist the authorities in pursuing criminal charges should you decide to do so, now or at a later date. Obtaining medical care will not require you to file a formal report with local law enforcement or the College.

The sooner medical evidence is collected, the more reliable the evidence will be in the event that you decide to report the assault to the police. To best preserve medical evidence, consider not bathing, douching, changing your clothes, brushing your teeth or going to the bathroom. Forensic medical exams for victims of sexual assault can be conducted free of charge through the State of Illinois. Medical assistance is available at:
